it worries me that the first(and more?) ep will be written by the guy that wrote x-men origins:wolverine...........i worry alot

still thats one hell of a good book to mess up, but look at how theyre mangling sword of truth, i mean i can enjoy the show for what is is...not much beyond pretty people fighting pretty fights with occasional pretty special effects plus the gorgious new zealand backdrop

still excited about it though :D

I don't know that HBO has F'up a series yet. Its the only channel that could attempt to pull this off. aSoIaF, all my bitching about Martin aside, is the perfect fantasy series to do this with because there is so much more too it than just to typical fantasy aspect. The political intrigue and duplicity of so many of the characters is what will drive this show, if they do it right....of course the series could drive away viewers new to the series once characters they have started to invest in emotionally start to be killed off.

I'm looking forward to it, despite the douche that refuses to finish the series....sorry couldn't resist taking one shot at him :p

He is a douche for making us wait so long, but reality is- ;)

I totally agree with everything you said too- Rome was wonderful, True Blood is wonderful and if anyone can do this right HBO can- They really haven't messed anything up that I can remember. Also the constraints of regular cable don't hold them back- they can show all the blood and gore, and sex they need to.

I'm in a quantum state of fear and excitement about this :p
On the one hand, making a movie out of this is awesome!
On the other hand there is SoT and the fact that it is so much harder to put depth into character on the screen that I fear it might not represent the books' characters adequately.

Definitely something I'm going to watch and I hope it will allow me to introduce more people to aSoIaF (if GRRM ever starts writing again)

The last line from one of the articles he linked:

Quote:
Meanwhile, Mr. Martin should have plenty of time to finish writing the last two books in what he has said is a seven-book series.

Proof that the programming director at HBO doesn't know a damn thing about this series.

Yeah, no kidding, unless HBO is planning on dragging this out for 20 years....

I see this problem alot with anime. Theres this awesome manga series; they start making anime on it, anime eventually catches up to whats been released of manga, then the show is either forced to go into hiatus in which case interest wanes, or they continue and sort of make it up as they go along :P Doesnt usually go well.

Hopefully its good, but am interested in seeing what happens if a few years go by and the next book still isnt out yet.

I assume your talking about the almost 2 seasons of filler in Naruto, and the tons of filler in Bleach? I haven't really seen it in less popular anime, but I prefer manga anyways.

Bleach is getting to the point where I'm going to stop watching it. It wouldn't be so bad if the filler had some excuse to go with it, but the manga is probably a full season or two ahead of the anime. They haven't ran out of material, so why are we getting this god awful filler season? If we ever see Karakura Riser again, the person in charge of the anime should just be shotgunned in the nuts.

So many better anime, I do agree, but I've been watching Bleach and Naruto for years, and both of them are in filler arcs right now and it kinda sucks. However, Bleach is sucking a lot more cause it just seems they aren't even trying to connect it to the main storyline, its just like "hey guys, heres some crap you can ignore" At least Naruto seems to be trying to link back to the main storyline, as weak as it is lol. Though I think this is way off topic and maybe should have its own "Anime griping" thread :)

Well X, and Kenshin are both like that. Kenshin got through two awesome seasons before it reaches the point where the guy hadnt started with the next series of manga, so it sort of just made up season 3 and well... it was trahs in comparison. With X they had to alter the end; although its still a good show, the last little bit isnt accurate to the manga.

Maybe we'll get some filler from GRRM. Jon could find a spooky castle and spend a couple of books exploring it and finding stuff he mysteriously won't have in aDwD, while Martin works out his epic writer's block.

Lets face it; Crossroads of Twilight was pretty much a filler novel. Maybe GRRM could do something like that. Have three chapters of Dany tyring to work out what shoes to wear, and then Davos watching the sunset for another three chapters, etc etc. It could work :P

Fail, RJ had no reason to write a filler novel, this is where he legitimately felt the story heading.

If the first half of CoT had been the epilogue to WH and then shit happened in CoT it would have been fine...but it didn't I don't think it was a filler so much as a miss calculation of how much he needed to focus on people reacting to the power surge put off by the cleansing and reaction to it. That part of the book took up so much time, it didn't leave him with any room to do much else.
