I've posted about Patrick Rothfuss in another thread (comparing his blog with GRRM), but today he posted an awesome blog:
http://www.patrickrothfuss.com/blog/blog.html and I wanted to tell you a bit more about his book.
The best comparison I can make is with Ender (Orson Scott Card) in a fantasy world. Except our main character actually knows what is going on and has a goal in life.
But he is a young superhero: brave, driven, skilled, smart.
There aren't many books that I've seen that can pull of a character like that and make him believable, Patrick did

. Often you find that such characters have some flaw like that they doubt themselves or are afraid of taking action, etc. The main character has none of these flaws, the only restrictions on him are determined by the environment, which he confronts enthusiastically.
The world in which it takes place isn't too special as of yet, but there are a lot of mysteries that should make it more interesting and the foreshadowing that is on the back of the book suggests that the world is far more complex than we know.
I am afraid that this is all that I can tell you without spoiling a bit. But I found the book, funny, engaging, interesting and complex. The amount of action that happens in a single book is immense, similar to book one of the SoT, but with a better plot (no obvious bad guy that is to be confronted and a father figure to guide the hero, etc).
I can go on being a fanboy, but just read it.
P.S. Book two is on the way (see the blog, he just finished a second manuscript) and I can't wait
