Hey guys, I'm looking for a book about piracy, or sailing in general. It's a subject I really like. A few books that I have read would be Red Seas under Red Skies, Inda, Fox, The madship series... other than these could someone recommend a decent book?

When you said madship, did you mean Liveship Traders by Robin Hobb, cause if not they are really awesome books.

Yea, Living ship. There was only one Madship now that I think about it.

I think that was the name of one of the books in the Liveship series. Have you read any more of Hobb's work? If not read the Farseer books, two trilogies. The Liveship books go in the middle of the that set.

Yea actually. I read the Farseer Trilogy a while ago, then reread it. Read the liveship traders, and then read most of the second Farseer Trilogy ( I say most, the third book there was about 2 chapters at the end I never finished. of course that is the part that details what happen's to the dragon so I'm sure I missed everything worth reading the entire book for) I have not read the second Liveship trilogy though. Or the Rain traders as I think it's called.

Hmm, usually I have no problem coming up with a few fantasy titles about a particular subjects, but I don't think piracy is a very common subject (because it is a rather boring thing actually :)).
I can't think of a serie you didn't mention yet that is all about piracy, but I know one of Modesitts' Recluse books are about a pirate and I seem to remember a book by Raymond Feist that dealt with some piracy. That's all I have for now, let me know what you find and enjoy :)

Raymond E. Feist brings up a book with a little sailing I love, which is Rise of A merchant Prince.

But for the record piracy is a lesser subject lol. I'm more insterested in books that deal with sailing to a greater or lesser extent.

There was one at a Barnes and Nobles that I thought about buying. It involved some sort of traveling and mapmaking, not sure what it's called but I believe I made it sound super boring lol.

Anyways, any ideas let me know thanks all.

I've read a few fantasy books where sailing is an important part of the theme, but I don't think I've ever actually seen one where piracy is more than just mentioned.

The Inda/Fox books are heavy with it. I just picked up the third King's Shield. Really like it so far.

Barely any sailing in this one - it's the Wall Street Corn Monopoly Book. What you meant was probably King's Bucaneer, which is mostly Piracy related.

You've already read what i would consider the best in the Genre, Scott Lynch's "Red Seas...", very few other novels touch on the nautical since the authors themselves know so little. I remember how bad the David Eddings nautical scenes were.

Other authors throw pirates in occasionally, but the books are rarely just about that.
