Chapter Summary - TGH Prologue - In the Shadow
~by Feelin Groovy

The epic saga continues with this opening, an opening in a rather different tone than we are used to. Things are darker, more sinister. Watch. A lofty character who adopts the pseudonym Bors to disguise his identity watches other people around him with distaste. He also notes the unreality of his surroundings - very little detail in the room, and cold flames stick out in his observations. It appears that Bors and roughly a hundred more masked mysterious Darkfriends have been summoned to a meeting with Ba'alzamon. Bors watches, studies, takes it all in. Beautiful servants cater to the guests, but they are mere golems. An Illianer, a Domani woman, a Shienaran soldier (Possibly Ingtar?), even a Tinker. Most disturbing of all, an Aes Sedai is present. The Black Ajah exists, it seems. Trollocs burst through the doors, followed by a Myrddraal who commands them to grovel. The Lord of the Dark is approaching. The air above shimmers, and Bors throws himself to the ground and repeats an oath, almost. Everyone else does likewise. But curiously, Bors keeps hearing the oath of the Light repeating in his mind while he recites to his new master. "The Dark One and all the Forsaken are bound in Shayol Ghul..." He fights back and squashes the voice down. As he looks up, he sees Ba'alzamon floating above them. He muses that perhaps he is only one of the Forsaken. We later find this to be true. Big B tells them they are in fact right next to Shayol Ghul right now, which cheers them up a little. He tells them all how glorious it will be when the Dark One triumphs and they shall rule. Yet there is much to do yet. He conjures up images of our three favourite ta'averen. Bors memorises their appearance. Ba'alzamon tells the people there that one of them is the Dragon Reborn, and perhaps, if you try, you should kill him. Suddenly, all sound stops. The Illianer appears in the throes of convulsion, and looks like she's talking to someone. She is receiving orders from Big B. Bors is subjected to the same. Continue as you have been doing. Watch out for the farmboys. And something else... Bors is filled with pain as Ba'alzamon, in my opinion, removes all trace of the unknown instructions from Bors' mind. He will carry them out, but he will not remember doing them. After it is all over, he is shown to his room by a golem servant. Bors is confused, and irritated. He wonders if it's all worth it, but again squashes that voice down. He muses that there is work to be done on Tarabon and on Almoth Plain. And so the Wheel of Time turns slightly closer to the dawn of a new Age, and The Great Hunt begins.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 1 - The Flame of Tar Valon
~by Maeric Baylen

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass leaving memories that become legend, then fade to myth........ The next book opens with Rand and Lan sparring on top of a tower in Fal Dara. The wind seems to trap him, and he is nearly impaled on Lan's practice sword. Lan asks Rand why he hasn't left yet. Rand doesn't answer and thinks instead about his "father" Lan assures him that even though he may have been born to someone else, that Tam is still his father. Lan then explains how Rand's sword is power made. We have a short section on the history of Lan's sword. They continue on discussing why Rand hasn't left yet. Rand gives excuses about wanting to see Mat, Perrin , and Egwene. Rand then complains about how Moraine won't talk to him, and how she has mysteriously disappeared. Lan tells him that Moraine came back last night. While they are talking, a large column of soldiers and wagons comes onto the scene. Rand recognizes the Flame of Tar Valon on their banners. Lan tells him that the Amyrlin seat has come in person, and then tells him that it would be better if he were a week gone. Rand thinks to himself that she has come because of him, and that he didn't mean to channel the One Power. He swears to never channel again. He begins to run, thinking to get away.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 2 - The Welcome
~by Maeric Baylen

This chapter opens with Rand attempting to find his way out of Fal Dara keep, so he can stay away for the Amyrlin Seat and all the other Aes Sedai. He shows up in his room to find that Moraine had told the serving women to trash all his clothes and replace them with newer fancier clothes. All of the new clothes look like something a Shienaran lord would wear. He changes into some of the new clothes on the insistence of the head servant. He then packs up a few belongings for his planned flight from Fal Dara.
With his belongings packed, he heads toward the stable. On his way through the courtyard, he sees the announcement of the Amyrlin Seat. At the stable, he comes upon the groom Tema, and tries to get him to saddle his horse. Tema refuses because he has been ordered to not let any horses leave the stable. He says the order applies to all the stables. Tema then tells him that the gates to Fal Dara are closed as well, and that no one, not even the city patrol, may enter of leave the keep without permission. Tema then tells Rand that he must be happy because the Welcome is finished and now the Amyrlin Seat will be looking for him. Rand breaks into a run again, frantic to find a way to leave.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 3 - Friends and Enemies
~by jcameronmk

Realizing he may be trapped in Fal Dara, Rand continues to seek a way out. He tries the horse gate where two Sheinarians, Ragan and Masema, are standing watch, only to find that a containment order has arrived moments before his coming. Growing increasingly nervous of his imminent summons to the Amyrlin, he tries the dog gate and even considers climbing over the wall with a rope, but the Fal Dara keep turns out to be just as good at keeping him in as keeping the trollocs out. Starting to panic, Rand turns instead to look for a hiding place within the keep. While searching through the storerooms, he comes across Mat, Perrin , and Loial playing dice with a dozen soldiers. He insults everyone present while in the effort of "protecting" them from what he will become. While searching deeper he practically bumps into Egwene, who is in the process of looking for him after hearing about his tantrum from Mat and Perrin. Rand confesses his worries to her, and she promises to help him hide in the women's quarters, but only after her routine visit to see Padan Fain in the keep's dungeon. Rand is worried about doing something so dangerous without Moiraine's direct permission, but he is so scared of being caught by the other Aes Sedai that he agrees to go with her. Egwene comments that the dungeon guards, Changu and Nidao, seem to be strangely changed since her last visit. Whereas Changu told her jokes and chatted with her the first time she came, now he curses and taunts them; and Nidao no longer speaks to anyone. The prisoners also seem affected in some strange way: both were imprisoned for light crimes, but curse and taunt like murderers or death row convicts. In the last cell sits peacefully the nightmare that has caused all of Rand's problems. Padan Fain/Mordeth seems perfectly sane at first, sitting on his cot expectantly as if waiting for something, but as time passes he grows restless, singing like a madman and taunting Rand about his fate as a male channeler. As they leave, Fain's cries follow them: "It's never over, al'Thor. Never."

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 4 - Summoned
~by Maeric Baylen

The chapter open with Moiraine in her apartments, reflecting on her image in the mirror. She wonders why the Amyrlin Seat has come to Fal Dara, and who she brought with her. She thinks that it could only be trouble, but she does not know what trouble. She wears her blue stone hoping that it will unnerve people if the Amyrlin had brought the wrong people.
Anaiya and Liandrin Sedai come and deliver a summons to the Amyrlin Seat. Liandrin notices that Moraine has warded her room against all other people and questions Moiraine as to why she did it. Moiraine tells her that she has it warded to prevent servants from digging thru her stuff. They discuss the fact that there are three new men claiming to be the Dragon Reborn (one of them is Taim in Saldea.) Moraine wonders how the wars will be now that three people have claimed at once. Anaiya tells her it isn't as bad as it seems.
As they proceed down the hall, they run into Lady Amalisa. As the four exchange pleasantries, Moiraine catches Egwene sneaking Rand into her apartments, and thinks that if she shows that much initiative she will sit on the Amyrlin Seat one day. They continue on to see the Amyrlin Seat, talking about the riots that have been occuring in Andor. Moiraine thinks that Elayne could be the first queen to be a full Aes Sedai. They discuss the fact that the Great Hunt has been called in Illian. Liandrin mentions that there are rumors of fighting on Almoth Plain and Toman Head (the Seanchan.)
They arrive at the Amyrlins apartments and Moiraine gets snubbed by all the Aes Sedai there. The Amyrlin talks about Elayne arriving at the White Tower and how strong she will be. Moiraine tells her that she has two girls with her that will be even stronger. The Red Ajah wants Moiraine sent to hoe vegetables under their care, because she was messing around with ta'veren. The Amyrlin asks Leane to leave them alone. After Leane leaves, the Amyrlin embraces Moiraine as an old friend and they wish it was like the good ole' days. Moraine tells her basically it couldn't be the good ole days and that they must do their duty (referring to Rand.) The Amyrlin says that they won't give it up, but if anybody finds out that they will be stilled, and she couldn't blame them.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 5 - The Shadow in Shienar
~by Maeric Baylen

Still in the Amyrlin's apartments, Moiraine is thinking about how few people have been stilled in history. They discuss the possibilities of Leane betraying the Amyrlin if she found out. The Amyrlin muses about the two Amyrlin's that have been stripped of stole and staff. She hope that she won't be the third.
Moiraine gets mad, because she thinks Siuan is ready to quit. The Amyrlin gets angry right back, because she hasn't had hardly any word from Moiraine since she left to get Rand out of the Two Rivers. She is angry because Moraine took Rand into the Blight. Moiraine tells her that things are running out of control. She says that Arthur Hawkwing was never as strongly ta'veren as Rand is. Siuan looks at the chest sitting on her desk that holds the Horn of Valere. Moiraine shows her the fragmented pieces of the seal. They discuss whether or not Rand is really the Dragon Reborn, and Moiraine tells her that he is. Moiraine then tells her about Mat and Perrin, and that Mat has the tainted dagger. She tells her that she has purposely let Rand think that she has no more interest in him. They decide that it is best to let Rand and company see the Horn safe to Illian and let time force Rand to proclaim himself as the Dragon.
We skip to Geofram Bornhald riding with his legion into Tarabon. He reflects on his orders to ride into Almoth Plain with his legion, risking war with Tarabon. The people his final orders come from are Questioners. They meet up with the Questioners and are told to enter a village. The Questioners say they have already pacified the village.
Liandrin goes to Lady Amalisa's apartments and walks into a gathering of ladies. After dismissing all of them excepting Amalisa, Liandrin questions her if she walks in the light. Liandrin leads her to believe that Agelmar is a Darkfriend. When she finds the correct time, Liandrin strikes out with a rough sort of Compulsion. Bending her to her will, she finds out that Moiraine has been speaking with Fain alone on multiple occasions. She then commands Amalisa to have her servants search through Fal Dara till they find Rand, Mat , and Perrin. She leaves her with a threat not to fail her.
The chapter closes with someone unknown coming to visit Padan Fain and evidently freeing him. He says that the battle is never over.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 6 - Dark Prophecy
~by Maeric Baylen

The chapter begins, with Randhaving a dream of red-clad Aes Sedai and Ba'alzamon. Mat , Perrin, and Padan Fain are also in the dream. Ba'alzamon tell's him that for him the battle is never done (almost a direct copy of what Fain said at the end of the previous chapter.) Rand wakes from the dream to find Nynaeve sitting in a rocking chair knitting. Rand senses her uneasiness about being around him because he can channel the One Power, but she still offers to hide him from the Amyrlin or any other Aes Sedai. They discuss the fact that Lady Amalisa and her servants are in an apparent hunt for him. Egwene has gone down to see Fain.
Rand doesn't approve of her doing this (with good reason.) Rand says that they can't keep the gates to Fal Dara barred forever. Rand names the Dark One, and the room lurches around him, and he gets really dizzy. Nynaeve of course berates him for this. Abruptly, bells start ringing all over the keep, sounding an alarm. Rand realizes that Egwene is in the dungeon with Fain and thinks that he is the cause of the alarm because he named the Dark One. He grabs his sword, and rushes out of the keep, running right past numerous Aes Sedai including the Amyrlin Seat.
Outside, he runs straight into three Trollocs, and is saved by a dozen Shienaran men. Continuing further into the keep, he comes upon a Fade finishing off seven men. The Fade comes for him, but Ingtar arrives to save the day. He continues on to the dungeons and finds the two guards dead, and that Fain had left a message written in blood on the wall. "We will meet again on Toman Head. It's never over Al'Thor" He begins scrubbing it off, but Liandrin walks in at that moment. She questions him, and begins torturing him, but Moiraine walks in and stops it. Rand finds Egwene and Mat in the cell, both unconcious. Moiraine heals Egwene, and finds that the dagger has been taken from Mat. Ingtar reveals that the Horn of Valere has been stolen, and that the guard on the gate has been tripled. When asked Ingtar replies that he did not know of any previous order sealing the gates. Back in the Guardroom we see Verin and another Aes Sedai taking notes of the Trolloc writing on the walls. Lan arrives and tells Rand that he has been exempted from the order to close the keep.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 7 - Blood calls Blood
~by Feelin Groovy

Mat has been temporarily weaned off his connection with the dagger for Shadar Logoth, unfortunately, he cannot be fully Healed until he has the dagger back. Mat and the other Aes Sedai leave the room and Moiraine, Siuan and Verin are left alone. They talk for a while, generally wondering how to get the dagger back safely. Moiraine suggests that Mat be the one to hunt it, since he's already been exposed. The others agree. Verin is asked to leave and send in Rand, but instead produces a notebook. She has copied down the dark prophecy written on the wall of the Fal Dara prison. After a reading, the Aes Sedai wonder if perhaps Lanfear is loose. Moiraine rightly says "A complication we do NOT need." Furthermore, Isam and Luc are introduced, and the Seanchan invasion is foreshadowed.
Verin is let in on the secret that Rand can channel when Siuan and Moiraine reach for the Source after talking about this particular subject. Suspicious behaviour and suspicious words confirm Verin's supsicious that perhaps Rand can do something very suspicious. Suspicious indeed. Even worse, Verin has figured out that Rand is the Dragon Reborn.
Perrin goes to see Mat , musing about Liandrin's desire to capture him. After slipping in despite a warning from Leane, he talks to Mat briefly as he wakes up for a few moments. Leane re-enters and makes Perrin uneasy. She's not telling the whole truth about Mat's condition. Also, she's curious about his eyes, so he lifts her to one side and leaves quickly, cursing his gift. Later he goes to Rand's room and changes, while Rand tries to be friendly. Perrin voices his discontent at Rand's "lordly" attitude and finds out that Liandrin's after him too. Perrin leaves after getting angry again, and Lan enters with a summons from the Amyrlin Seat. They get ready, and Lan tries to teach Rand some proper manners on the way there. They enter the Amyrlin's room.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 8 - The Dragon Reborn
~by Feelin Groovy

A long chapter with little substance. Lan leaves Rand on his own to face the three Aes Sedai in the room - Moiraine, Siuan and Verin. Moiraine tells the story she has pieced together over the years, of how Tam al'Thor became the foster father of Rand. She also tells the story of how she started on the quest to find the Dragon Reborn. Siuan stuns Rand with the information that he is the Dragon Reborn, and then offers him a choice: he can do what he likes, or he can help Mat to find the Shadar Logoth dagger and the Horn of Valere. Rand chooses the latter and leaves to find Egwene. After a short meeting, causing an uproar at the women's quarters, he speaks to her before leaving to find the others in the hunt. Meanwhile, Lan gives Nynaeve the Malkier ring.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 9 - Leavetakings
~by Feelin Groovy

Rand meets up with Loial, Mat and Perrin. His two friends leave him after Rand tries to apologise in a lord's coat, the only coat he could find. Rand apologises to Loial, who takes it more gracefully before Lan takes Rand away for a lesson. He tells him about Sheathing the Sword. The Amyrlin appears, while Lan disappears, sending her Warder to Almoth Plain to inspect the trouble. While she makes a speech to the party, an arrow grazes her arm and Agelmar orders for the assassin to be found. Siuan suspects the assassin was aiming for Rand instead. When they set off, we meet Hurin, the sniffer. He smells the thieves on the trail south.
The next thing we see is Bayle Domon, who has been offered a thousand gold marks to take someone to Illian from Mayene. He accepts.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 10 - The Hunt Begins
~by Tularis

Setting a fast pace for the beginning of the journey, Ingtar leads them south at Hurin's direction, the sniffer all the while mutting about something worst than just darkfriends. During the first part of the journey Rand attempts to converse with Mat and Perrin, only to be shunned by them.
Through the remaining hours of the day the group runs and trots at regular intervals, Ingtar not allowing a moments rest. Loial points out to Rand he was the fastest runner in Stedding Shangtai. Eventually though, twilight creeps up on them without any glimpse of their quarry except for the occasional track and horse droppings. They make camp in the forest and six guards are posted.
It is there at camp that Rand discovers that Moiraine only packed fancy clothes for him. Grumbling, he finds a few tidbits from Ingtar about his fellow soldiers: Uno is much older then Ingtar; Masema fought the Aiel at Ankor Dail in the Eastern Marches and hates Rand for his uncanny resemblence to them. Ingtar respects the fierce warriors, the Aiel being the only opponent to severly defeat Artur Hawkwing. Loial again reminds Rand of the Aiel battle motto and points out the similiarity between appearence.
They broke camp before sunrise next morning, and although the pace was hard, it was no longer the frenzied run employed earlier by Ingtar. Two hours later, they come across a camp with signs of thirty or fourty. Human bones were found indicating what the Trollocs had for dinner. Hurin, sounding puzzled, mentions the trail has changed from its constant south direction and is now heading of to the Northeast. Little more then an hour later, a body is discovered as their quarry suddenly turns south again. Camp was made with the coming of twilight.
The next day, much the same is found. Another camp, with a scattering of human bones and Trolloc droppings, and another change of direction, this time to the northwest. Soon after, another bloodied corpse is found and the trail veers of to the south. They follow the zigzag trail and the dead bodies, with each change Ingtar growing angrier and angrier, despite each day bringing them closer to their prey. And then eventually, they came upon a small village on the River Erinin. After a quick inspection, the village is found to be completely uninhabited. Whatever had happened, the darkfriends and trollocs had rode straight through. While the group is discussing in the main street, Uno spots a woman in a nearby window(Lanfear.) After a quick search though, nothing is discovered. Hurin points out that their quarry most definately crossed the river. Ragan and Masema cross the river to scout. On the other side, they soon come across the skinned bodies of Changu and Nadao. Loial explains how the Shienarans bury bodies without clothing or shroud or coffin, called the 'last embrace of the mother.'
The trail now runs continously south. Ingtar explains they are three or four days from the field of Talidar, where Hawkwing led a huge victory against conquering shadowspawn. A monument was later built in honour of such a battle, but it no longer exists. They pass the site of Harad Dakar, the capital of Hardan, abandoned three hundred years ago. Ingtar mentions other old nations: Maredo, Goaban Caralain, Mar Haddon, Almoth and Kintara.
Eventually, another deserted village is found. Searching through the abadoned houses, Rand enters one and is suddenly confronted by what had happened: a family having a dinner and screaming in terror. After experiencing the same glimpse a few times, he is shaken and cold. Embracing the void, the spell seems to break.
Uno spots the woman in white again, but once again is unable to confront her. At a large house, they find a Fade nailed to the door. After a few shocked whispers, they ride south yet again...

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 11 - Glimmers of the Pattern
~by Tularis

The chapter begins with Ingtar calling an early halt, the party still shaken from the previous effects seen in the village. Uno is again insisting to Ragan that he saw the woman again. Ingtar approaches Rand and gives him a parcel from Moiraine and a message. The message is from Agelmar, giving command to Rand should anything happen to Ingtar. The lances already know of this.
The package contains the Dragon Banner, a golden serpent with scales legs on a white background. Mat and Perrin stumble across Rand and his "gift" from Moiraine in which they are informed that their childhood friend can channel and is believed to be the Dragon Reborn. Mat is upset, Perrin is stoic. After a brief discussion in which his two friends seem to desert him, Rand folds up the banner in an attempt to hide the design. Finding Red, he beds down near Hurin and Loial, as far from Mat and Perrin as possible, by a large stone(its a Portal Stone.) Loial examines the stone, noting it appears to have been worked at and has vaugely familiar carvings scribed upon it. Putting his re-wrapped dragon banner in his saddlebag, Rand goes to sleep, with Hurin and Loial lapsing into silence after sensing his mood.

Padan Fain POV

Fain stares Northward, in the direction of Rand. His thoughts ultimately center on what Ba`alzamon and Shadar Logoth did to him. Fingering his ruby-stone dagger, he examines his camp: twelve darkfriends and twenty trollocs stare back at him in return, both groups fearing him more then each other. At first, he had fought control for leadership with the Fade who had wanted to go north to Shayol Ghul. At the last village, he had killed the Eyeless and let the Trollocs have the villagers. The first village by the River Erinin was already deserted. Ordering the trollocs to slaughter the remaining darkfriends, he ignores the pleas of a noble woman, turning his back on the massacre and studying his other find. The Golden case containing the horn he has yet to figure out how to open. Laying down, he muses over his ability to sometimes not being able to feel Rand, as he can't now and he couldn't at Fal Dara. Somehow the boy is able to pull a "vanishing" trick. Fain laughs over the screams of the dying and the gnawing of the Trollocs, promising himself and Rand that they shall meet at Toman Head.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 12 - Woven in the Pattern
~by Lord Ravear Mandragoran

The chapter begins as people are still startled by the attempt on the Amyrlin's life(which in fact was aimed at Rand). The Amyrlin rejects the offer of Lord Agelmar to stay until the villain is caught, she is in a hurry to leave. After they have said their farewells, they are quickly riding for the harbors. It is not until very late that they make camp. Lan came to the tent of Egwene and Nyneave to talk to Nyneave, the conversation ended in Nynaeve being angry and stalking back to the tent where she had stood talking only a few paces away. The first of the Aes Sedai that came to teach them was Verin Mathwin. The lesson ends with Nyneave accidently burning a couple of blankets. For the couple of days they are still pressing hard and riding fast and making camp at night.
During those days Egwene and Nynaeve reveive several Aes Sedai, Alviarin, Alanna(who asks too many questions about Rand for Egwene's liking) and Liandrin who doesn't teach much but more or less interrogates them about the three boys. Finally, they reach their ships. That night Egwene has a one of her foretelling Tel'aran'riod dreams.
She goes to find Moiraine but is told from Anaiya that Moiraine and Lan have left without a word, as have Verin, and Liandrin. Egwene tells Anaiya about the dream that she had, first she had seen a man with a mask over his face and fire where his eyes should be, his look frightened her until he suddenly vanished and then she saw Rand sleeping on the ground wrapped in a cloak, a woman had been standing over him ,looking down, though her face was in shadows, her eyes seemed to shine like the moon. Then both had vanished with a flash of light. the dream did not fade like a normal dream. Anaiya seems to think that Egwene could be a Dreamer(a talent closely linked to Foretelling). Egwene finds out that she is to go on the boat the River Queen, the same boat that the Amyrlin is in.

Loial says he thinks the stone they were sleeping next to is a Portal Stone, a way to travel between alternate worlds, or "the worlds that might be". He has no idea how they went through it, but Hurin is in a state of panic, and Rand calms him down by saying he'll get him out of this, he tries to channel in the stones but it doesn't work. Plus they still need the dagger for Mat and the Horn from them. They ride south following the trail.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 14 - Wolfbrother
~by Lord Ravear Mandragoran

Back in the camp everyone is searching for the missing Rand, Loial and Hurin. They appear to have vanished without a trace. Now that the sniffer Hurin is gone, they are also left with no way to keep following the Darkfriends. Left with no other option Perrin makes contact with the wolves. He introduces himself to them and is given a name, Young Bull. The wolves can smell the trollocs and Fain, his smell they dislike even more then those of the trollocs, Perrin knows he can follow them now, through the wolves. He tells Ingtar about his wolf-abilities and Ingtar says that they better keep that from the men, some might not understand. He tells everyone that Perrin is a sniffer and that they can now resume the search. Then Verin Sedai appears, claiming that Moiraine sent her. She asks where Rand is and is told that he dissapeared with the Builder and Hurin. Mat comments that she is not here for the Horn but for Rand.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 15 - Kinslayer
~by jaimeet

Rand, Hurin and Loial are stil in the world they reached via portal stone earlier. They are riding south with Hurin sniffing the way for them. They notice burns on the ground running east-west thicker at the center and tapered towards the edges. They found water which tasted flat.
Loial treesings himself a staff because the place feels dangerous to him. A little later Hurin says that the trail has changed from before it feels like he's remembering as opposed to smelling (He is now following the trail that fain WILL take but hasnt yet.)
That night Rand takes first watch. He practices the sword forms and plays Thom's flute to keep his mind off the void and saidin. Suddenly there is a fog and Ba'alzamon appears he calls Rand Lews Therin and when Rand denies it and says he's dreaming, Ishmael says that he is really there and that he knows every incarnation of the Dragon even before Lews Therin Telamon. Ba'alzamon says that the Black Ajah follow him. He mentions that he knows Rand is following the Horn of Valere. He commands Rand to serve Shai'tan and shows Rand his burned but healing face. Rand refuses an offer by Ba'alzamon to teach him and flame engulfs him, the heron on his sword gets branded on his palm.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 16 - In the Mirror of Darkness
~by jaimeet

Rand has stood watch all night instead of having woken Hurin or Loial because of the Ba'alzamon episode during the night. He hides his hand injury from both of them. They start on the trail that Hurin had been sniffing though Rand can find no physical evidence of any kind like tracks etc.
Rand notices a spire in the distance and wonders what it could be, Hurin says that in our own world it would be where Hawking's monument would be, but when they get closer they see that it is infact a monument to the victory of the Trollocs. Hurin sees movement in the distance he thinks its a woman but they are not sure. At this point they also discover that they are almost at the Kinslayer's dagger which means that they have been travelling much faster than possibble. Suddenly thay hear a scream infront of them a woman (Selene/Lanfear) is fighting off a Grolm that Rand kills with an arrow. She says she's from Cairhien, she was taking a nap and woke up here.
While talking to her Hurin lets it slip that they are following trollocs and darkfriends that have stolen the Horn of Valere. They start following the trail again and Selene starts mentioning how greatness would follow the man who finds the horn. She notices that his hand is hurt and rubs ointment on it and it immediately feels better (she Heals him). She starts riding next to Loial and talks to him, a little while later Loial tells Rand that she knows a lot of history specially the Age of legends etc. Loial suspects that she must read alot of stuff in the royal Cairhienin library. Selene starts talking to Rand about the shot that he killed the Grolm with, he mentions the void he uses to concentrate, she calls it the Oneness and suggests that he must use it all the time to learn all its uses(channeling). When Rand gets suspicious of her again about all that she knows she gets angry and mentions that she read it in a book called the Mirrors of the Wheel. She tells them that the Portal stone that they woke up next to was right near where they are, Rand mentions that she must know how to use it, she denies it. Rand doesn't want to go towards the Portal stone because he will have to channel to use it. Suddenly they see five grolm coming for them from about half a mile away.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 17 - Choices
~by jaimeet

There are five grolm rushing at them. Rand wants to make a run for it, but Selene says that the Grolm will always follow until they run you down. The only choice is to either kill all five or get away, she mentions the portal stone again as a way to leave. Rand refuses again and heads for a nearby hill where they dismount and get ready to fight the Grolm. Rand gets his bow ready and shoots the first one. Three keep coming, the fourth start to eat the dead one but then starts coming for them again as if compelled (Selene is channeling at them to attack). Within moments Rand has shot all of them and the five are dead. Suddenly they hear a Grolm's bark again, coming from sides except from the direction of the Portal Stone. They head for it. Rand still thinks that Selene must be able to channel considering that she got to this world next to this portal stone, she denies it again but tells Rand about the symbol on the Portal stone that stands for the real world. Rand channels and they are back in the real world, Selene is totally amazed that he was able to get them and all their horses back too without even knowing what it was that he did. Hurin goes off to look for the trail he was following in the real world but he can't find it. They think they've lost the trail but Selene mentions that it may be that because the world was a reflection of this one it may be that Fain and the Darkfriends still have to take the path that Hurin was following. They make camp where Hurin thinks he followed the trail to, hoping to catch Fain and gang when they pass by.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 18 - To the White Tower
~by crashingwaves

Egwene and Nynaeve are still on a boat on the river Erinin, heading for Tar Valon with other Aes Sedai. Egwene has had another dream in which Rand is doing something that puts him in danger. Ba'alzamon has also appeared in her dreams.
The Amyrlin herself interrupts Egwene and Nynaeve's conversation. It seems she is the one who will be teaching Egwene that day, yet she also makes Nynaeve stay for the lesson. She confirms that Nynaeve will be an Accepted upon arrival to the White Tower. Nynaeve, of course, starts losing her temper. She never can seem to hold it in when Aes Sedai are around. The Amyrlin wraps Egwene and Nynaeve in air and tries to teach Nynaeve a lesson, but Nynaeve returns the favor, and the Amyrlin shields her. They continue their lessons.
Soon after the Amyrlin leaves, they arrive in Tar Valon. The Aes Sedai ignore the two girls upon their arrival, so Egwene and Nynaeve make their own way into the White Tower. They are met by Sheriam Sedai, Mistress of Novices, who greets them with an unencouraging speech. She takes them to their rooms.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 19 - Beneath the Dagger
~by crashingwaves

The chapter begins with Rand trying to sleep on Kinslayer's Dagger. It's an extremely cold night, and Rand is trying to get comfortable. He's drowsily thinking that he should be taking Selene to Cairhien rather than delaying because Selene wants him to.
While Rand is thinking about Thom Merrilin, he sees Selene going through his saddlebags. When he asks her what she's doing, she replies by saying that she's looking for one of his shirts to wear while she cleans her dress. Rand, being close to Egwene and knowing how odd women can be, accepts this explanation easily. Selene then starts to undress in front of him, but he objects and tells her that they will leave for Cairhien in the morning. She tries to tempt him by saying that they should wait for the Horn of Valere, but she's interrupted by Hurin coming back. Both Loial and Hurin are shocked to find Selene in one of Rand's shirts.
Hurin tells Rand that he saw a fire about two miles away that would have been hidden from the other side. Rand immediately knows that it's Fain. Selene convinces him to take Loial and go ahead and steal the Horn. A Trolloc who is guarding Fain's camp almost stumbles upon Rand and Loial but doesn't discover them. Rand assumed the Void while he tried to avoid the Trolloc, which quickly fell asleep.
Rand sneaks into the middle of the camp wrapped in the Void. Loial follows him, although unwillingly. They're almost out of the camp when Fain wakes up yelling, "It's gone!" A Trolloc attacks them, and Rand kills it while he yells at Loial to run. He fights saidin while fighting the Trollocs, muttering that it is better to be dead than to use the One Power. They manage to get away.
Selene begs to see the Horn. No one knows how to open the chest, but someone she knows. Selene tells him that he is mad for not taking the glory that is offered inherently with the Horn, but he insists that it is going to Shienar and that he does not want that glory. Rand places the Shadar Logoth dagger into the chest in hopes that the chest will shield them from its evil.
The chapter ends with Fain recounting how Rand suddenly was there in his consciousness when the Horn was gone.

~by jaimeet

Rand and gang ( Hurin, Loial and Selene), have been moving all night. They are now in Cairhien. Selene wants to see the horn again but Rand doesn't allow it because the dagger is in the same box. She gets angry with Rand and doesn't talk to him anymore except when he speaks first. He is still not sure if she is an Aes Sedai, despite her vehement denial and subsequent anger.
They near a village (Tremonsien) by nightfall and Rand is looking forward to sleeping in a bed that night. Selene tries to convince him to sleep under the stars saying that the village will be dirty and full of drunks but he is worried about Fain catching up with them in the night. They throw a blanket over the chest with the horn to make it less conspicuous and go on to the village. They ride for the village.
Suddenly Rand notices a reflection of the setting sun from something in the ground and turns towards it. It looks very bright to him. Its a crystal sphere sticking out of the ground about 20 paces across held by a massive hand. He remembers Bayle Domon told him about this on Tremalking. Rand is totally immersed in his thoughts about the statue that he almost rides his horse over the edge of the excavation site. Rand finally snaps out of it shouting "Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared screaming defiance with the last breath to spit in Sightblinder's eye on the last day" an Aiel phrase. Also we see that Selene was genuinely afraid of what might happen if Rand tries to channel using the statue.
They arrive at the Inn called "The Nine Rings", named after Rand's favorite story when he was a boy.

Rand, Hurin, Loial and the mysterious Selene make their way into Tremonsien, a small village outside of Cairhein. After a short conversation with the innkeeper, Mistress Madwin, the party enjoys a spicy Cairheinen dinner. , noticing the flute in Rand's possession, asks if Hurin would like to play it. Rand informs the good lady that it is his flute and convinces her that he doesn't mind playing for her guests. He plays songs for the rest of the night.
Rand is approached by an officer later on. The officer looks suspicious of Rand and asks many questions of him. Rand asks the officer about the large statue outside of the village and learns to his dismay, that it is in fact an artifact from the Age of Legends. Finally the officer offers to send an escort of his men with Rand for the journey to the city of Cairhein.
Later Rand asks Loial and Hurin if they have any idea why the officer was so suspicious. They tell him about Daes Dae'mar, the Great Game. They explain to him of the excessive plotting among Cairheinen nobility to gain greatest advantage. Rand's presence will no doubt arouse suspicion among most if not all of Cairhein.
