Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 26 - Discord
~by Maeric Baylen

Rand, ecstatic that Thom is alive, goes into his room at the Defender of the Dragonwall to retrieve the bundle that has Thom's instruments. He tells Loial and Hurin that Thom is alive and takes Loial with him to see Thom. Loial explains that he may be in trouble for leaving his stedding.
At the inn where Thom is staying Rand and Loial meet Dena. Rand tells Dena that he brought back Thom's flute and harp. Dena explains that she is Thom's apprentice and that he is teaching her to be the first woman gleeman. Thom comes in and gets Dena to leave and go get her knives from the blacksmith. After Rand gives Thom back his instruments, he makes Thom an offer to assist them in taking the Horn of Valere back to Shienar. He asks Loial to leave and then speaks with Thom about the Karaethon Cycle. Thom quotes a couple of passages and then Rand tells him that the Heroes of the Horn will come for anyone that blows it, even Darkfriends. They talk about Thom's nephew Owyn. Thom gives him the old flute back.
After Rand leaves, Zera comes in and tells Thom to stop playing the Great Game. She tells him to marry Dena, and Thom denies playing the game. That night he has a performance for Lady Arilyn and her guests.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 27 - The Shadow in the Night
~by Maeric Baylen

After Rand meets Loial they leave, and Loial tells him that he lost at dice. He doesn't know that Dena cheated him.
As they head back to the inn, Trollocs and Darkfriends attack. Loial throws one against the wall, killing it, and Rand kills one with the sword. They try to avoid other parties of Trollocs and Darkfriends, but are slowly being pushed away from the city. Selene shows up, and berates him for being chased around by Trollocs. They decide to hide in the Illuminator's chapter house. Loial knocks over a rack and sets off one of the larger fireworks. Aludra dresses down Tammuz for being a fool and messing up the display for Lord Galldrian. Somehow no one noticed Selene, Rand, and Loial hiding almost in plain sight (Selene/Lanfear hid them with the One Power I believe) Three Trollocs try to enter the compound and Rand shoots another of the big mortars at them, starting a fire. Selene disappears again and Rand and Loial head back into town.
Back at the Defender of the Dragonwall they rejoin Hurin. Cuale brings Rand a message just left by an old woman (Selene in disguise.) The message is from Selene. She tells him to think of glory and her. Rand is getting desperate for Ingtar to arrive.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 28 - A New Thread in the Pattern
~by jcameronmk

Following the Horn and Mat's dagger ever southward, Perrin, Mat, Verin, Ingtar, and the Sheinarians move into Kinslayer's Dagger. While in the mountains, they come across Urien, an Aiel Red Shield of the Two Spires sept of the Reyn Clan. Verin interrogates him, and finds out that he along with thousands of other Aiel have crossed the Spine searching for the car'a'carn (or He Who Comes With the Dawn) Urien is very halting in the information he gives, and is more intimidated by Verin than by the dozen Sheinarians. Perrin has his suspicions that Rand may be the car'a'carn as well as the Dragon Reborn, but Verin reiterates that they have wasted valuble time, and the party continues on south, leaving the Aielman to continue his search.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 29 - Seanchan
~by jcameronmk

This chapter is in the perspective of Geofram Bornhald, who is still busy on Almoth Plain following the orders of the Questioners. He complains about having to disperse his legion in order to carry out all his numerous orders, but is not really concerned about the situation until he enters a village in which a massacre of men, women, and children has taken place. While questioning some rabble from Tarabon and Arad Doman about events on Toman Head, he filters out that some kind of invaders have landed on Toman Head. A message comes from Jaichim Carridin, one of the questioner officers, to stay away from Toman Head, but in anger about the massacres, Bornhald decides instead to continue onward to investigate the rumored Seanchean from over the sea.
Then the perspective changes to Bayle Domon, who we haven't seen in a while. We come in just as someone on the Spray sights a Seanchean ship farther out to sea. After being threatened by the damane who is evidently on board the Seanchean vessel, he allows the ship to catch up. The captain, he is surprised to learn, is a woman by the name of Egeanin Tamarath, who gruffly orders him to change course to Falme. At Falme, Domon's ship is searched, and his cueillendar seal is taken. The finding of a cuillendar disk on the ship of a "simple tradesman" causes a stir among the Seanchean, and Domon is taken to see the High Lord Turak. Turak proves to have a collection of heartstone himself, and says that he wants to speak with another collector. "Speak" turns out to mean that Turak asks questions, and Domon answers them. The meeting does nothing for Domon except to teach him a lesson in Seanchean etiquette.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 30 - Daes' Daemar
~by Qarambur

Days after the disaster at the Illuminators House, Rand, Hurin and Loial were cooped up in their room, still waiting for the rest of their party. The Great Game, Daes Dae’mar, was coming to a head, as invitations from Lord Barthanes and King Galldrian himself were offered to “young Lord Rand”. Rand’s first instinct was to burn them as he did the rest. Hurin was quick to advise against this. To refuse either would be to invite certain death. Rand then decided to play the game and wait without opening either. Rand and Loial went to the city gates to check for Ingtar’s arrival, and were once again disappointed. On the way back, they noticed smoke billowing from their room. Suspecting darkfriends, they hurried back. Moving in to rescue Hurin and their belongings, they found Hurin unconscious with a welt on the side of his head, and the Horn of Valere stolen. As he exited the burning building, Mat and the others showed up.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 31 - On The Scent
~by Cerridwenn

Mat, Verin and the gang reach Cairhien and find Rand at the burning inn. Verin healed Rand and he tended to Hurin. Mat explained to Rand how they found them at the inn and that Uno and the other soldiers were outside in the Foregate. Rand told Mat that he had the Horn and the dagger, but darkfriends had stolen it. He told Rand about Perrin's abilities as a 'sniffer' and said not to worry since they had two sniffers now. Hurin told Rand that he could still follow the scent of the Darkfriends, but not for long, perhaps a day.
They all took rooms at The Great Tree (inn). Over a meal, they tried to form a plan of action. Hurin had left to follow the scent rather than resting, Perrin cannot decide whether or not to tell Rand about his ability with the wolves. After the meal, Hurin returns stating he has found the darkfriend’s lair. When he told them it was the new manor of Lord Barthanes, everyone seemed to be in shock to some degree or another. Verin said they needed to get inside Barthanes’ manor but couldn’t figure out how when Rand produced an invitation. After reading it over, they decide who would go the follwing night.
Verin gave a brief explanation about the statue that Rand inquired about when he first came to Cairhien. She said it was a sa’angreal, one of a pair (one for a male channeler and one for a female channeler). She told them that these were the two largest ever made that they know of and may very well be powerful enough to break the world again if a male and female channeled into them. Verin made it clear that there was no danger in digging these up since there were only a few women strong enough to handle the female sa’angreal. The two had to be used in unison and there is no Aes Sedai living who would aid a man who could channel. Even if there were, there was no male strong enough to handle that amount of power at the moment. But once the true Dragon Reborn makes himself known they may have something to fret about. Mat and Perrin know she is refering to Rand , but neither say a thing.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 32 - Dangerous Words
~by Cerridwenn

Rand, Ingtar, Mat, Hurin, Verin and Loial went to Lord Barthanes’ Manor with ten Shienarans for an escort (led by Uno). After the invitation was offered and titles stated, they were let in with haste. Once inside, Barthanes came over to greet them, then Verin and Ingtar went on to mingle through the crowd. Mat and Hurin had already disappeared to the kitchens. Loial stayed close to Rand, he told him that he could feel a Waygate nearby. Loial went off by himself and Barthanes approached Rand again once he was alone.
Barthane pushed on during their conversation that Rand was there to report back to King Galldrian in some way, even though Rand insisted he had never met him. He commented and scrutinized about his sword, the company he kept and whether he was from the Andoran royal line because of his looks that were so close to Aiel. When Rand denied everything, Barthanes left him.
Rand wandered into another room. There he saw Thom Merrilin playing his harp, but Thom did not acknowledge that Rand was even there. Rand was cornered by three Ladies, all trying to entice him to come to their manor rather than one of the others while all of their husbands seemed to be away. As quickly as possible, he made his escape by going to speak with Thom. They spoke briefly about the situation Rand was now in. When Thom asked Rand if he was looking for his help again, Rand said no.
Hurin approached Rand and Thom and said that Mat had fallen and injured himself. Rand realized it was a way to get him out of there because they had found something. He spoke quickly and loudly enough for people close to hear about seeing how bad the clumsy servant was injured, then slipped away, feeling everyone’s eyes following him.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 33 - A Message From the Dark
~by Maeric Baylen

This chapter opens with Rand talking to Hurin. Hurin has tracked the Darkfriends that stole the Horn of Valere to Barthanes manor in Cairhien. Verin apparently has an in-depth chat with Barthanes, a known Darkfriend. Loial says that the Ogier left Cairhien because Galladrian stopped paying them. Hurin leads Rand, Mat, and Loial down to the gardens that he tracked them to. Loial reveals that there is a Waygate in the wall ahead. While Mat is gone to get Verin and Ingtar, Rand pulls the trefoil leaf and opens the gate only to find that Machin Shin is waiting for them. Rand use the One Power to drive the Black Wind back into the gate, with help from Loial. Hurin and Loial don't even suspect that Rand was using the One Power, because Loial found the trefoil leaf on the ground and replaced it. Meeting up with Mat they go back inside and meet Verin and Ingtar and everybody prepares to leave. As they are leaving, Barthanes pulls Rand to the side and delivers a message to Rand that Fain left. He said that he will wait for Rand on Toman Head, and that he has what he seeks. The rest of the message were various threats against Rand's family and friends. Rand relates the message to Verin on the way back to the inn. Back at the inn, he explains about tracking the horn and Machin Shin waiting on them. Rand convinces everyone that Fain will be waiting on Toman Head and that he has to go.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 34 - The Wheel Weaves
~by jcameronmk

This chapter opens with Thom Merrilin returning to the Bunch of Grapes, still grumbling about his reception at Barthanes' palace. He enters and notices that Dena has fallen asleep waiting for him, but when he turns her over he discovers that she has been murdered. After killing the murderers who were waiting for him in the wardrobe, he pays the innkeeper for the trouble. She sympathizes with him when she learns that Dena has been killed, and tells him that the cutthroats were Galldrian's men. He leaves the inn grinning evilly.
Then we switch to Padan Fain, who is still leading the trollocs and darkfriends toward Toman Head... with the Horn. Upon reaching Falme, he immediately presents the horn (and, unwillingly, the dagger) to the High Lord Turak. Turak is naturally suspicious of a begger dressed man who has in his possession something from the Age of Legends, and refuses to sound the Horn, saying that he will present it instead to the Empress herself. Here, from Turak, we get our first mention of the Daughter of the Nine Moons, Tuon, though we don't see her importance except as the imperial heir as yet.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 35 - Stedding Tsofu
~by jcameronmk

When our three ta'veren, with Verin, Loial, and the Sheinareans enter the stedding, the first ogier they come across is a female named Erith (who Loial finds very pretty). Erith politely asks the soldiers to remain outside, and then leads Ingtar, Hurin, Mat, Perrin, Rand, Loial, and Verin to the Stump, a great tree which is near the center of the stedding. They come across some maidens of the spear, and the situation almost becomes bloody, but the ogier manage to keep everything peaceful with references to "the Pact", a treaty in which the Aiel swore not to shed blood within the stedding. Erith leads them to where they will meet the elders, but Loial stays outside, nervous despite Rand's assurances that the elders will force him to get married.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 36 - Among the Elders
~by Tularis

As Juin leads them through the Ogier town of Stedding Tsofu, Loial begins to grow more and more anxious, as if fearing for his execution. Arriving at a grassy mound almost at the base of one of the Great Trees, Rand suggests to his Ogier companion to wait outside, one that Loial eagerly accepts.
Inside the room within the mound, Rand and his travel weary companions face seven Ogier gathered around a dias directly in front of the door. The council is made up of three women seated on the right, three men on the left, with an older, more dignified Ogier seated on a raised chair in the middle. She introduces herself as Alar , Eldest of the Elders. She informs the group before her that Verin had already told her of their need to use the Ways again to recover the Horn of Valere, but that no passage had been allowed through their Waygate for hundreds of years. With that, she asks for Trayal.
Eventually, Juin returns with two Ogier women carrying a dark-bearded Ogier man between them. The male lacks expression and has a blank faroff look to his eye. Alar explains that he is Trayal, one of the last to journey through the Ways. Verin inspects the drooling man and is shocked to find him completely empty of a soul. That does nothing to lessen the Aes Sedai's conviction though.
Perhaps its the influence of three ta`veren, or the groups conviction convinced her, but Alar agrees to allow them passage through the Waygate. She also agrees to allow Loial to accompany the three boys after hearing their words of protest at her wishes for him to return home.
Outside, Ingtar sends Hurin to get the other soldiers and the remaining group find Loial with a flower given to him by Erith. After a light banter between friends, with Mat laughing mostly, he informs them that Neysa Ayellin found him handsome.
After the return of Hurin, Uno, and the other soldiers followed Alar through the Ogier town until they reached the Waygate. Verin wastes no time in plucking the Avendesora leaf and as the two halves wing open, is immediately confronted by Machin Shin. After quickly closing it, everyone contemplates their next course of action.
Other steddings are suggested, with Stedding Cantoine lying just above the River Iralell and Stedding Taijing east of the Spine of the World. He informs the party almost as an after thought that the Waygate at Camelyn is closer, and the one found in Tar Valon closer still. Verin quickly dismisses the idea, pointing out that Machin Shin shall be waiting for them no matter which one they will go to.
Hurin suggests a portal stone. Verin knows of none closer then the Aiel Waste. Alar points out that there is one nearby, and after Verin explaining she knows how to use one, the party sets off.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 37 - What Might Be
~by lindz0509

The Ogier lead the party to the Portal Stone. Once the Ogier head back to the stedding, Ingtar tries again to convince Verin that they are not sure that Fain or the Horn are on Toman Head. Verin convinces him to follow. She then asks Rand to help her with the Portal Stone, intending for him to use it.
The only symbol Rand knows is the one for their world, which does not exist on the stone. Verin explains that the symbols on the top half of the stone are for other worlds, and since they are already in their world, there is no need to have a symbol for it. The symbols on the bottom half of the Portal Stone indicate other places, telling Rand that he can take them to another stone in the same world. She points out a symbol of parallel wavy lines crossed by an odd squiggle. The only one of three Portal Stones Verin has ever visited, the one that will take them to Toman Head. She then tells him to choose one of three other symbols to use in conjunction with the one for Toman Head. She knows nothing of what worlds they are, the wrong choice could possibly kill them all. Rand does not want to choose, but Verin pushes him to do it for Mat, and the Horn. She calls Rand the Dragon Reborn, and Rand replies that he will not be used.
He picks a symbol that happens to point towards Toman Head. Everyone gathers close to the portal stone as Rand begins to channel and Verin pretends it is her channeling to cover for Rand.
The world flickers as they each see different possibilities in their life, over and over again. Rand lives many lives…He was a soldier, a shepherd, a beggar, a king. He lived as a farmer, gleeman, sailor, carpenter, as one of the Aiel. He was executed, he married Egwene, he was the Dragon Reborn, Egwene as Amyrlin Seat gentling him, etc…
When Rand is able to stop channeling, they are at the Portal Stone on Toman Head. Everyone is much shaken. Verin estimates that it took the party four months to reach their destination, not saving them any time after all. She begins healing the Shienarans, to help calm them. She heals Mat and Perrin, but when she gets to Rand, he backs away and says he does not want her help or any Aes Sedai help. They ride west towards the city.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 38 - Practice
~by Tularis

Egwene POV -

The chapter starts with Egwene sitting in her novice room with Nynaeve and Min. They have been there about thirteen weeks, and with the temptation to channel and touch Saidar too great to resist, she is juggling tiny balls of light. Nynaeve, having no friends among the Accepted despite being raised, is stalking about in one of her usual moods, and Min is sitting nearby on a three-legged stool, chatting casually about Galad. Egwene denies any interest to him at first before losing concentration on the balls of light and confessing that he does look good. Min informs her that someday Galad will hurt someone for a greater good and not even notice.
The door bangs open and in enters Elayne, announcing that the rumours are true: King Galldrian is dead and the city of Cairheren is plunged into a war of succession, or a civil war. Min mentions a few other rumours, such as the false dragon in Saldeaa being caught, and Elayne states that she saw Logain crying. She felt sorry for him.
At that, Egwene begins thinking that she hadn't dreamt of Rand in months. Anaiya still keeps a close watch on her dreams and carefully checks them out for any hints or connections to any coming events.
After a banter of conversation about their chores in the Whitetower, Elayne asks Min if she sees anything new in their auras. Min hesitates before replying, "Danger. You are all in some kind of danger. Or you will be, very soon. I can't make it out, but is danger."
Quickly changing the subject, Elayne tells Min that she should wear a dress because Gawyn has been keeping a close eye on her. Min hotly announces that she'll wear whatever she chooses and won't change for anyone, even a lord.
The door opens suddenly and in enters Liandrin. Egwene had not heard that she had returned to the Whitetower, and is unsettled by her presence. Regarding the small group for a moment, the Red Aes Sedai tells Elayne and Min to leave and then turns her attention to the remaining two. She then tells them that Rand and the other boys are in trouble and need their help. When asked how Liandrin knew, she says that Moiraine has sent a letter for the Whitetower professing great worry the two girls.
Egwene and Nynaeve quickly offer their support and Liandrin tells them the boys are in trouble from Shayol Ghul, and they must travel to Toman Head. Egwene asks if they have anything to do with the rumours of Artur Hawkwings army come back, and Liandrin snaps at her for being foolish at believing such ridiculous rumours. She informs the girls to meet her at the Ogier grove an hour before sunset and tell no one because the Black Ajah will be listening. With that, she leaves.
Min and Elayne soon enter, having been listening in the next room through a hole in the wall. Min tells them that she will go too; she is tired of Siuan and several Brown Sisters bugging hr about her viewings. Elayne also agrees to go, and Nynaeve tries to talk her out of it. Min puts an end to the argument with...
"I think she has to come as much as the rest of you. The rest of us. I can see the danger around all of you more clearly, now."
They are all taken aback, and after a bit more discussion, begin making plans to leave.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 39 - Flight from the White Tower
~by Maeric Baylen

This chapter opens with Nynaeve, Egwene, Elayne, and Min trying to exit the White Tower for their planned meeting with Liandrin. After a few difficulties, they collect their horses and leave the Tower grounds. They meet Liandrin, and she is furious that Elayne and Min are with them. Liandrin takes them through a Waygate in the Grove. When questioned about what will happen if the meet the Black Wind, Liandrin replies, "If the Black Wind appears, I will deal with it. Moraine does not know as much as she thinks." Liandrin forbids the three to touch the Power while in the ways. The rest of the chapter is Elayne, Egwene, and Nynaeve droning on about bonding or marrying Rand. Liandrin leads them for the next two days thru the Ways. They finally reach the Waygate for Toman Head and Liandrin tells them that she has finally brought them to where they must go.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 40 - Damane
~by Maeric Baylen

At the Waygate, Egwene and Min are taken captive by the Seanchan that are waiting on them. Nynaeve channels up a windstorm and she and Elayne somehow fight their way free. Egwene is collared, and finds out that it isn't best to punch the sul'dam. Renna gives Egwene her first taste of punishment through the leash. Liandrin and High Lady Suroth have a dialogue that proves to us that Liandrin is Black Ajah. Liandrin tells Suroth that it isn't her fault that they couldn't hold Elayne and Nynaeve, and that she must capture Nynaeve and take her and Egwene to the other side of the Aryth Ocean. The soldier that Min cut with a dagger asks if he can kill Min, and Egwene gets tortured again when she starts begging for Min's life. Suroth stops the man, and talks to Egwene. Renna gives Egwene a switching throught the leash, because she brought Suroth's attention on herself. Renna tells the story of damane and sul'dam. Renna tries to get Egwene to channel over a long distance to see what she can do. Egwene lies and says that she can't do it. Renna gives her another switching. Min tries to help and she gets switched too.
Nynaeve is hiding behind a tree and thinking about the things she did with the One Power to combat the damane and sul'dam trying to capture her. Elayne shows up and scares her. Nynaeve encourages Elayne because she thinks she was scared by running away and leaving Egwene behind. They decide to head for Falme on Toman Head to try and find Egwene and Min. They wonder if Liandrin was lying when she talked about Rand.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 41 - Disagreements
~by jcameronmk

Fresh from their experience with the Portal Stone, Rand and co. find a small abandoned village and bed down for the night. Rand wakes up in the middle of the night to find Ba'alzamon at his bedside, holding the Dragon banner. Ba'alzamon starts another philosophical rant about the turnings of the wheel, and Rand yet again rebukes him, drawing so much of the power that he puts himself in danger and loses consciousness. When he wakes up, he is at first unsure as to whether it was all a dream. The dragon banner still lies in his saddle bag, and everything is as it was, except for the charred impressions of fingers on the back of a chair.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 42 - Falme
~by jcameronmk

Nynaeve, and Elayne are still wandering the streets of Falme, trying to find a way to free Egwene from the Seanchean. Nynaeve sees a man in Seanchean nobleman's dress that looks like Padan Fain, but dismisses it as her imagination playing tricks. They continue to watch the house of the damane, and then the POV switches to Egwene, who is inside the building. She is trying to remove the collar with saidar while watching Renna (her trainer Sul'dam) in the garden below. Min enters for her weekly visit, and Egwene confides that she is fast losing hope of escape or rescue of any kind. She is becoming increasingly anxious about being taken to Seanchean, and announces that, while she will never accept her slavery or stop fighting, she has given up hope of the Seanchean ever being defeated.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 43 - A Plan
~by lindz0509

Min knows that she cannot help Egwene. She runs from the building as the sul’dam begins to beat her. As she is walking down the street, Elayne and Nynaeve call out to her. They realize she has been crying and ask about Egwene. Min tells how Egwene is being sent to Seanchan, and they discuss leaving by ship, knowing they have to find a way to free Egwene first.
Min takes a moment to read auras. Elayne has a red-hot iron and an axe, floating above her head. With Nynaeve, she sees a man’s ring of heavy gold.
They head towards the harbor and speak with Captain Domon, whom Min has made acquaintance with. To assure that Domon will wait to set sail with them, Nynaeve reveals that he will have three Aes Sedai to help protect his ship. They talk about Aes Sedai captives. Domon guesses that they will be freeing them. He gives them his word to wait for them and to be ready to sail at any time.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 44 - Five Will Ride Forth
~by lindz0509

Perrin, Mat and Hurin are trying to locate Fain’s trail. As they come to a village, Hurin stares at the blackened circle where the Village Council and their families were murdered. Perrin believes it was the Seanchan’s doing, and asks if Hurin has located Fain’s trail yet. He has, but as they are talking, the people in the village begin shouting and pointing. Mat suggests they get their horses, and as they ride away, Perrin notices that it is Whitecloacks that are riding into town. After putting some distance between themselves and the village, Perrin speaks with the wolves in the area to assure there is no pursuit. They follow Fain’s trail a little further before heading back to report to Ingtar. Perrin wonders what the Children of Light are doing so close to Falme.
Geofram Bornhald recognized Perrin as he rode out of town. Bornhald orders Child Byar to put the prisoners in the inn and nail the doors and windows shut. He intends to make them think there are guards posted, and after a few days, realizing there are none, they should be able to break out. Bornhald had left men behind to convince the Questioners that they were still spread out across Almoth Plain, he had brought only a thousand men across Toman Head. Fighting three skirmishes with the Seanchan, he believed they had killed two Aes Sedai so far. The Lord Captain then gives orders to Byar, that when the fighting starts, he is to stand back and take word of what happens to his son. After reporting to Dain Bornhald, Byar should then report to Pedron Niall personally that the Tar Valon witches are fighting openly for the Seanchan. Bornhald and Byar discuss the possibility that it was Perrin who rode out of town as they came in, and that being a Darkfriend, may give warning to the Seanchan. While they are talking, above their heads a huge winged shape circles unnoticed.
Rand worked the forms with his sword while waiting for Mat, Perrin and Hurin to return. Ingtar tells him that the form he is using, Heron Wading in the Rushes, leaves him completely open. Rand explains that he practices it to improve his balance. Ingtar warns that what you practice, you use without thinking. Mat and the others ride into the camp. Verin Sedai decides who is going to follow the trail to Falme; Ingtar, Hurin, Mat, Rand, and Perrin. Loial wants to go also, but an Ogier would attract too much attention. Rand asks about her coming, and she mentions the damane, saying the only help she would be is by channeling, which will cause more trouble when they try to capture her. She gives a slight warning, man or woman channeling in Falme should keep it small. Ingtar asks her not to add troubles, “a man channeling?” They can make it by sunrise if they ride through the night. The party of five rides forth.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 45 - Blademaster
~by Maeric Baylen

This chapter opens with Nyaeve, Elayne, and Min waiting to spring a trap on a sul'dam and her damane. Using the Power like a whip Nynaeve springs the collar off of the surprised damane. Now free the damane punches her captor and runs. Planning on using the sul'dams dress, Nynaeve inadvertently finds out that the collar works on sul'dam as well. Using the now collared sul'dam they enter one of the kennels to try and rescue Egwene. Bayle Domon talks with one of his men about their plans to meet with Nynaeve and company to help in their escape.
Rand, Hurin, and Ingtar discuss plans to enter the house to take back the Horn and Shadar Logoth dagger. Mat can sense that the dagger is there, but they aren't sure the Horn is. They sneak into the house and begin trying to make their way through without being seen. They come to a door and Mat tells them that the dagger is inside that room. They go into the room and Mat grabs the dagger and the Horn. Rand glances out the window and happens to catch a glimpse of Egwene chained as a damane. High Lord Suroth enters the room and wall panels fall away to reveal Seanchan soldiers trapping them in the room. Mat slashes one of the soldiers who tries to grab the horn with the dagger and the man dies screaming. Ingtar and the rest attack the Seanchan in the confusion of the man dying, which leaves Rand alone with Turak. Turak reveals that he is a blademaster. Rand fends him off for a while, but finally uses the void and kills Turak. Ingtar and the others come back after killing the other Seanchan. Rand resolves himself to attempting to rescue Egwene. They leave in the middle of the Seanchan becoming alerted that something very wrong is going on.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 46 - Out of the Shadow
~by Maeric Baylen

Nynaeve, Elayne, and Min take the captured sul'dam into the kennel to try and rescue Egwene. They enter the room, find Egwene, and remove her adam. Egwene reveals that the secret of the a'dam actually working on the sul'dam is that they can channel. Damane are people born with the spark, sul'dam are women without the spark, but they can be taught to channel. Renna enters the room and before anybody can react Egwene collars her and begins torturing her. They leave Renna and Seta collared with the bracelets on the pegs on the wall. Out in the street, they find themselves boxed in by column of Seanchan soldiers. Egwene channels and starts blowing up the ground underneath their feet. This alerts other sul'dam and damane, and starts a full-scale battle inside Falme.
Bayle Domon watches the battle with the One Power unfold in Falme and wishes the Aes Sedai (Nynaeve and company) would hurry. Outside the city, Geofram Bornhald sees the battle begin and begins to advance his legion of Whitecloaks on Falme. He dispatches Byar to report what had happened at Falme.
Inside the city, Ingtar, Rand, and the rest of the party with the Horn try to find a way to get it out of the city. Rand is still trying to figure out a way to rescue Egwene, even with a One Power battle going on around him. Ingtar reveals that he let in the Gray Man that tryed to assassinate the Amyrlin or Rand. He plans to hold back the following Seanchan and sacrifice himself so the Horn can be saved, that way he will be returned to the Light. Rand and Hurin leave Ingtar holding the Seanchan at bay, and hurry to get the Horn away.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 47 - The Grave Is No Bar to My Call
~by jcameronmk

As Ingtar faces the Seanchean soldiers and utters his last battle cry, Rand, Mat, Perrin, and Hurin find themselves in the middle of a battle between the Seanchean and the Whitecloaks. Rand wonders if Egwene is among the Seanchean damane, but realizes he can do nothing about it in any case. To be caught by either side will prove fatal, so they do the only thing they can, they sound the Horn of Valere. When Mat sounds the horn, its sound is as golden as the horn itself, and almost immediately the entire area is covered by a thick fog.

[Then Robert Jordan switches to his "action mode", in which everything is happening at once, but we get it told from different POVs.]

Geofram Bornhald and his Whitecloaks, even though they match the Seanchean in numbers, are immediately wiped out by the Seanchean damane. His last thoughts are that Byar wouldn't be able to tell his son how he died.
Then comes a glorious description of the heroes of old as they are called forth by the horn's magic. Rogosh Eagle-eye, Birgitte Silverbow, Gaidal Cain, and leading them all the high king Artur Hawkwing himself. Rand leads the heroes into a charge against the Seanchean host, Mat sounding the Horn of Valere, Perrin bearing the Dragon banner. Then, before they contact the enemy host, Rand realizes that he is alone and somehow above the city. He is thrown from his horse when Ba'alzamon comes out of the mist to face him, and while the heroes fight a desperate battle against a host many times their size below him, he duels the Heart of Dark, this time as a true blademaster. There is a link between the duel and the battle below: when Rand dominates, so do the heroes; when Ba'alzamon dominantes, the heroes are almost overwhelmed by the Seanchean.
As they duel, Ba'alzamon tries again to convince Rand of the hopelessness of the light's victory, as he has countless times before. Rand realizes that he won't be able to hold up forever against the onslaught, and remembers Lan's words: "There will come a time when you will want something more than you want life...It is every man's right to choose when he must sheathe the sword". Rand leaves himself open, and takes Ba'alzamon's staff into himself, while at the same time driving his heron-marked blade into the heart of darkness.

Chapter Summary - TGH Chapter 48 - First Claiming
~by lindz0509

Min struggles through the street, unable to find any of her friends. She can see the harbor and many ships are on fire. As she watches one ship approach the harbor mouth, a woman on horseback with a silver bow rides out across the water to put a burning arrow into the ship. As the ship burns, the woman on horseback is gone… Min is not sure she just saw Birgitte Silverbow, but she knows it was Artur Hawkwing she saw earlier during the battle. She enters a building, knowing what she needs is there. In the back, under an oak tree, she finds Rand. First she pulls a melted sword out of his hand, the heron on the hilt had been branded into his palm. She searches his body for wounds, and finds a wound in his side that had already cauterized itself. She drags him into the house, into a bed. He is freezing, so she joins him under the blankets. Egwene walks in the door and finds them in bed, Min explains why, and Egwene just says that they found Bela. Egwene does warn Min, they cannot marry, because of what he is. Min just tells her that since she tossed him aside for the White Tower, what should she care if she picks him up. Egwene leaves to find Nynaeve. Min is ranting at an unconscious Rand, when the most beautiful woman ever walks in the door. She corrects Min about Rand al’Thor, calling him Lews Therin Telamon. She says Ishamel thinks he controls things, but really she does. Min asks who she is, and she says “I am called Lanfear, girl.” And she also states “Lews Therin was and is mine, tend him well for me until I come for him.”
Child Byar galloped away, never looking back. The legion was dead, Lord Captain Geofram Bornhald was dead. There was only one explanation; Darkfriends had betrayed them. Darkfriends like Perrin of the Two Rivers. He had to report to Dain Bornhald what had become of his father. He had to tell Pedron Niall what he had seen in the sky above Falme.

~by lindz0509

They are in a forest when Rand wakes up to realize he has been hurt. He sees Min sitting close by, but barely recognizes her in a dress. She tells him they are five days east of Falme. She also tells him how Elayne, Nynaeve and her freed Egwene. They are both on their way back to the White Tower with Mat, Verin and Hurin, and that they took the Horn of Valere with them. When he tries to look at the wound in his side, she tells them that the One Power was unable to heal it and Moiraine says it will need to heal naturally. He realizes that he is not free of Aes Sedai after all, and tells her she should go. He does not want her help and did not like her having Verin shepherd him. She tells him that she did not send Verin, but that Verin took it upon her self to follow him.
Moiraine asks about Fain, and Rand admits that he never laid eyes on him at Falme. Moiraine says that is for the best until he knows what Fain is. Rand says he is a Darkfriend. But she corrects him and says he is more than that and worse than that. He is the Dark One’s creature to the depths of his soul. In Shadar Logoth he fell afoul of Mordeth and when Mordeth tried to take over his soul, a soul already touched by the Dark One, it resulted in something that was not Padan Fain nor Mordeth, but something far more evil.
Rand begins to remember and says he killed him, meaning the Dark One, but Moiraine says the Dark One is not slain so easily. She tells him of their battle in the sky, and then shows him an artist’s rendition of it with the Dragon banner behind them. He does not want to be the Dragon Reborn, he does not want to Break the World again. “You are what you are.” Moiraine tells him. She shows him the broken seals to the Dark One’s prison, three of the seven are broken now. Rand doesn’t want to hear anymore. With Min’s help, he stands. He stares at what is left of the heron-marked sword and lets go of the hope that Tam al’Thor is really his father. With help from both of the women, Rand walks down to the camp. He asks why the Dragon banner is out where anyone can see it, and Moiraine says it was always too late for him to hide.
He thanks Perrin and Loial for staying. The Shienarans crowd around and then fall to their knees. Uno speaks for them as they pledge themselves to Rand, to the Dragon Reborn. Masema, looking at him as if seeing a vision of the Light, pledges to him also, “I am your man to the death,” he says in a fervor. Moiraine tells him to choose between hiding and fighting. Death is lighter than a feather, duty heavier than a mountain. He has made his decision.

~by lindz0509

By ship and horse the stories spread, by merchant wagon and man on foot, told and retold, changing yet always alike at the heart. Men proclaimed themselves for the Dragon.
Other tales spread, of a column that rode from Almoth Plain. A hundred Bordermen, it was said. No, a thousand. No a thousand heroes come back from the grave to answer the horn.
